I have been struggling for the past 2 yrs. to keep the deck on this late 70's clean. I have tried Island Girl and on the smooth areas it seems to work but on the diamond non-skid areas the dirt just gathers. There also seems to be a mold look that keeps coming back in the cockpit area. I scrub and get it clean then a week later it looks the same. How do I seal the pores and stop the dirty look? Is it time to paint the deck? Is there a product that will seal the pores after it is cleaned? Help... Jeff

Non-Skid Cleaners

There are numerous non-skid cleaners on the market. Some are more effective than others. You may want to check with some of your fellow sailors to see what works for them. I've used a product made by 3M that wasn't that effective. I've recently purchased a non-skid cleaner made by Starbrite (you can buy it at Walmart). A friend of mine who also owns a C-320 said it works for him. As for the mold in your cockpit area you may want to use a mild solution of bleach and water and see if that kills it.

Thank you,

I have read the wash up threads and think there are some good ideas there. Keep it clean. Jeff

Simple Green and Bleach

Jeff: I am an environmental chemist and have found that a cup of Simple Green and two cups of plain old bleach in a gallon of water will stop the dark mildew looking crud in the non-skid for about six weeks. Simple Green can be purchased at Walmart and is biodegradable. The bleach is an oxidizing agent an has only a finite life once it has been in contact with an organic like mildew or dirt. These items are inexpensive and is safe for the envirionment. They use a form of Chlorine to stabilize drinking water. Good Luck DirtyJim
