Clamcleat replacement for jib sheets

I know lots of people recommend Spinlocks for the jib sheets, but I saw a post here about using these clamcleats because the screw holes are an exact match. I like the simplicity of that. Does anyone have any experience using this type of replacement?

No, but aren't jib sheets usually handled with winches? Seems those clam cleats might be a possible hang up.

I don’t know how jib sheets are usually secured on boats of this size, but anything with a fairlead like that would concern me.

Hmm, well I'm a beginner, but I haven't used the winches for the jib yet. The boat came with clamcleats similar to these but the design was poor. They're a pain to use. Here is the thread where I saw this. There is a pic of the original in the post.

Easy Solution to Jib Cleats H240

I have seen several remedies to the jib sheet cleat issue on the 240. I finally found a cheap and easy resolution to the problem. Clamcleat part # CL228. I did some research and the holes match up perfectly. This is a jamcleat with a farlead that maintains the correct angle of the Jib Sheet...

I'm a beginner, but can I ask why a fairlead would be a problem? I thought that would be a benefit so the sheet would not lose position when released during tacking.

You’re right when it comes to larger boats-a different world. However, the 240 has a small <100 % jib and in most situations the winch isn’t necessary.

Every boat I have been on and the vast majority I have seen that do not have self tailers use a cam cleat. Standard Cam-Matic® Cleat - 150

Yep, new holes but the old ones are easily filled. Get some butyl and some West System and have at it.

First there is an aluminum plate embedded in the fiberglass where the hardware is attached. Look for the raised area. Secondly the jib is a 110 max only. You could attach either a fixed cam cleat with strap or a swivel cam cleat. You do not need a winch to raise the jib with.
