Nope. But I would not leave the hose off overnight or the boat unattended without putting something in the hole. Piece of cake, just like wrestling a python in a phone booth laying on it side :)

Re: Changing the exhaust hose on Hunter 31 with a Yanmar eng

I never changed mine on our H31, but it is a SOB. The hose is stiff and it needs to be fed from the muffler, though that pan, under the aft berth and back onto the engine. I think you want to replicate that loop from the muffler box to prevent water from getting back to the engine.

I would think that some of that slime stuff that the electrician use to feed wires through a conduit would come in handy.

I would figure a few hours to do the job and it will probably take two people.

we did it by running a half inch guide line (old price of dock line) through the hard parts then pushed hose over the line and it followed the bends of the line. I haven't been able to replace the second piece that goes to the through hull but it didn't look like it was in bad shape either....the first piece takes all the abuse it looks like

Re: Changing the exhaust hose on Hunter 31 with a Yanmar eng

I agree with Steve. We did ours earlier this year. 17 feet. The old hose was cracked and was leaking fumes. It is a good thing to replace. Took my son and me three hours, although i spent an hour the prior day getting the hose off the thru hull. If you're in a protected environment, you can leave it off, if you have waves or bad weather, seal the exhaust hole up first.

It is really worth doing.

Wow, thank you all for the very fast replies. Guess I'll go buy 20 feet of hose. What size hose is it. I guess I can take the old one off to find out.

I'm in a very protected marina. But I think. I'll still cover the hole.

Thanks again......Jim

Jim: I think the hose has an ID on it so you should be able to determine the size. Too many years ago to remember.

Cut a piece of hose off to take as a sample to your supplier. Be sure to jam a plug into the hose and clamp it before you leave the boat. Ya just never know and just think of the embarassment if you came back and .........................

A hair dryer on the hose works wonders when removing and installing the hose on fittings. Your wife shouldn't mind.
