Changing teak to stainless

I have heard through a friend that Catalina Direct, or some other aftermarket seller, sells replacements parts for exterior teak trim. These replacement parts are made out of stainless and other low maintenance materials. Has anyone heard about this? Who could I contact to learn more?Thanks for any advice.Stuart Gordon

Why???

I may be biased, but in my opinion the teak trim is far superior and more beautiful than the so- called low maintenance materials. If you use a product like Sikkens, then the maintenance is minimal, and it looks like a million bucks!

Keeping wood looking good in the Caribbean sun requires too darn much work. I too enjoy the look of nice brightwork, but I now prefer that any exterior wood be on someone else's boat. I would be interested in replacement handrails. The rest is easier and I've found / made replacement trim of weather tough materials.

I special ordered my 1994 C-28 with teak handrails rather than the stainless. A Catalina has so little teak it is piece of cake to take care of. I prefer to sail rather than work on my boat as well as the next guy. Because I do not care for the look of Sitkens i stick with varnish. I spend about 2 or 3 hours once a year lightly sanding, masking and varnishing my teak. It looks terrific and people often coment about how pretty she is.
