Hi all.
I'm planning to do an oil change and fit a new oil filter this weekend.

I think Steve Birch suggested that I use cheap generic engine oil -
are there any minimum standards that I should go for?

Also I plan to use a small siphon pump to pump out used oil through
dip stick hole.
Did I see someone suggest opening a drain nut under sump instead?

thanks,

John

Be sure to run the engine until it gets warm just
before you drain it.
Cheap oil? It's only a few quarts & Shell Rotella
10-40 goes in my engine. I am in the Texas area so
get a grade that will work for your climate.
I've never looked for a drain nut under the pan but I
think it would make an awful mess to clean up and most
marinas will paddle your fanny good if they find that
you have let oil drain into your bilge and get pumped
out. I've got a container with a manual pump built
in. Pumps out in about 10 to 15 minutes. Most marinas
also have oil collection stations. If not bring it to
any Walmart that has a service dept.
