Looking for 350 ft of chain. Shocked by west marine price. Will look up fishery supplies since am local. Anyone has suggestion where I can find good chain for good value? Thank you!

Where the heck are you going that you'd need that much chain?

And why?

Desolation sound bc. And around the inside passage. Fairly deep anchoring.

Yes to local, obviously:). Seattle area.

Stu: It's not uncommon to carry that much chain here if you're serious about waking up in the same location where you went to sleep. Plenty of anchorages are 60' at high tide... unlike SF Bay, where you sail in 6' of water with a 3' chop. :)

Phil, that's why I asked.

It's more like 30 feet of H2O with varying levels of slop on the Bay, more outside on the ocean sometimes...:):):)

Our experience, with many C34s "up your way" tends to mitigate the idea of 350 of chain. More like 100 to 150 feet with plait rode for the deep stuff. Many of our skippers have done DS and further.

Shocked by WM prices? Aw, c'mon, you're surprised???

You live in an area with a huge fishing fleet. They buy their chain somewhere else, right?

give this outfit a call... I work with them a lot and they are good honest people to deal with. they should be able to come in about 50% of WM's prices....
they dont do yacht rope/line or other sailboat rigging, but their chain prices cant be beat.

try barrel end purchase...is cheaper n you get same exact stuff.
i bought bbl end chain before i left usa and spent less than half the money of new bbl stuff. good luck.
as for anchoring in shallow water with mixed rode... good luck. all i have seen do that have lost their boats. we use all chain.
chafe happens.

350 ft chain is about what one forty ft boat needs for two anchors. is best yo have 200 ft each anchor.
i have 250 ft on my secondary which is a 45 cqr, and 196 on my primary which is a 30 kg bruce. thankyou ray, this anchor is perfect.

my boat desires not shiny gorgeous stealable stuff but functional items not looking like wealth or privilege.
i use galvo and love it. is much more usable than alternatives without yhe absolutely obnoxious pricing.

regardless of what specifically we are talking about, I agree with this sentence 100%.

items that are functional and long life... the way they are installed on the boat and maintained will tell the story about how much the owner cares for their boat.

speaking of love hate relationships with ground tackle.

I absolutely love my 66 lb (30kg) bruce except when I have to haul it and the chain up by hand,

(its the occasional deepset mudball that is the killer).

It looks so 'seaworthy' on the anchor roller
in the slip:Liar::redface:

You can really do that by hand? I choose waternwaves to be on my team. Regardless of the sport. Even chess.
