I just reacquired my boat after loaning out for 6 months and lots of small broken stuff.

The center board line is broken and does not go through hull . My main concern is what hardware is proper to connect to the centerboard ?

thanks

I replaced mine 2 years ago. Rudy at D&R Marine sells a 5/16" polyester double braid (New England Sta-Set) pendant spliced to a nice quality narrow long SS shackle, nicer looking than the one Sunbird pictures. The shackle is just a long enough throat to fit on the centerboard, and pivot slightly.

I don't know how difficult it will be to get that line fed either up or down, because the pendant goes through the curved tube under the companionway steps. When I did mine, I used the existing pendant as a messenger. I replaced it because I didn't know how old it was and if I should trust it or not. I didn't see up into the trunk, because we had it on a lift with a pit for the centerboard to go down. Since the line wasn't frayed, I'm assuming that I do have the sheave that is in there. Others have not had the sheave and have had to replace it (I think on a 222.)

Brian, by any chance would you have a photo of the shackle from Rudy?
I believe mine is a repurposed halyard shackle and would like to see what it should be.

Ward, as I recall, it looked most like a long tack shackle like this Wichard:
Each side of the shackle was nicely tapered and smooth and narrow. It seemed long, but then the pin barely fit into the hole, and it only pivoted so much. Seemed right sized and trick. :D

I think the pin was held in with cotter pins, but honestly, I can't remember.

Yeah, see, here is the picture Rudy has up on D&R Marine's site:

And that's what I remember it looked like! :D

Thanks for that. I probably should give Rudy a call and pick up a new one. Then I can compare directly to see if it is smaller than the one I have been using. Still trying to figure why the line gets stuck with the CB pulled up tight. Current thinking is the shackle is too long and or too wide.

Ward - I also ordered a replacement line from D&R, as a spare. I noticed the shackle being slightly more streamlined, just as Brian describes. My guess is the better fit it provides will help your situation.

I just got Rudy's shackle but want to find a smaller one with an allen head pin. This seems hard to find.
