Finished this up a couple of days ago - all but the end pieces. Now just heading out to the islands for a few days to make sure the new ceiling sails OK.
Overall, I'm happy I did it the way I did. I think if I lived in a very hot place, I might be concerned that the adhesive on the velcro might give up. If we experience that, I can tack the velcro with some short staples or something. But, about half the ceiling has been in place for a couple of months with no issues.
Total cost: I don't know ... a few hundred USD? Total time was something like 8 hours ... ish, not counting waiting for paint to dry.
