Dan - "Summer" comes in August

Dan - mark your calendar - summer comes in August in the Puget Sound. If you're here for a couple weeks hopefuly you'll get to experience it. Portland is always several degrees warmer than here according to the TV weather news. Actually the dress code for the Sound is more like foul weather gear over the parka during the rest of the year. Parkas lose some of their insulating capabilities when they get soggy. Fred - What's happening? It looks like you're spending all your time on the computer and not out there working on the boat???? By the way, for the hot rodders, the SC-50 shouldn't be that difficult to shorthand. The primaries are within 4 feet of the wheel so this should be close enough. As for speed, the owner said on a trip down the coast from San Francisco to LA they were doing 27 KNOTS, flying the chute, at NIGHT. How does that compare with driving BMWs, A8s, or big block Chevies??? Comfort: it has 880 Ah of AGM batteries (800 house, 80 start), a large inverter, AND, get this, stand-up headroom! This is not your grandmas little Hobie 33. Electronics includes radar which was added on the Pacific Cup (SF to Hawaii) because they like to sail INTO the storm cells for that extra speed. Anyway, for the folks that like that occassional adreneline rush now and then I think this would be just the ticket to help keep that "feeling young" feeling.

John, so you feel my pain, huh?

Actually, I'm spending a lot of time baby sitting my wife's new black puppy. Hooked up the new TV antenna on the radar arch yesterday though. And those hot rod boats? I'll pass. Been there, I'm a FLAT WATER, FAIR WEATHER sailor now. :)

Give Me a Hunter

Personally, Hunter Marine makes the best boats available. I wouldn't even look at a Catalina or an Oday. Daryl

Thats a pretty bold statement Daryl

Best !? On what exact parameters do you claim that? Thats like saying one religion is best(snicker). Statements like that totally discount anything you might say beyond that ridiculously bold statement. I could *strongly* argue qualitative and quantitative data against what you said above. What does your other brothers, Larry and Daryl say? ;-) Reference pic of H376

Besides, that's how Daryl talks,

I think he gets off firing us up. Last week he hated Hunters.

Twas a Hunter 376 that had the hull come loose

from the chainplates. Split right down the hull *pop. Not exactly "best" design as daryl would claim

F

Fred Ficarra

Thanks Tom, I know nothing of this model,

I thought most Hunter chain plates were like those on the 34. What year was that 376 built?

Chain plates were cut too short.

Fred: This was a mfg screw up. Nothing wrong with the design. The chain plates on these boats actually are connected to the keel. The material is actually a composite material of some type that is bonded to the hull. The worker trimmed the chain plate too short so the bolts were not actually connected to the plates. Since this was discovered the mfg. process was changed so this should not happen again. Every mfg. has their problems (no matter what ANY one tells you). You can have an automated line or a one off line (hand built) and you are going to have mfg. problems. PS: don't listen to anything ..... of USA has to say.

No fair, someone's using my name

Best Boat

Gentlemen and Ladies, I have owned a Catalina 25 and an O'Day 35, and a Sunfish, and a homebuilt Arch Davis designed Sand Dollar. The best boat by far is the one that you currently own. Dave.....of USA

To Cliff and the identity theft victim. Daryl, change

something like your location. So your the reason some of the stuff Daryl says is good and makes sense. OK Cliff, here you go. I'm going to tell you about one of my babies. In 1969 I bought a new 69 Camaro hard top. It was a gift to me, from me for my 21st birthday. Planed it all during high school. It's a SS and RS (Hidden headlights and washers) It has the factory cowl induction hood Endura, (rubber) front bumper The engine: 427 .060 over to 440cuin. 12.5:1 compression with ALL of the L88 and LS7 good stuff including boron rod bolts. Aluminum open chamber heads. It's fuel injected. MSD ignition, Headers of course. Aluminum radiator. A turbo 400 with a GearVendors overdrive to a 12 bolt posi with 410 gears. The batteries are in the trunk. The jack has never been used. Front and rear spoilers and an 8track tape player on the console behind the console gauges (original). Koni's on the front with individualy adjustable air shocks out back. (It has a vacuum powered high pressure pump under the hood). The steering is fast ratio power made for TransAms. A secret pitman arm connects the steering box to the draglink. There is also cruise control. The sounds are now by Alpine. (160 watts) Addco sway bars and poly bushings. The tires are foot wide Goodyear's all around mounted on Centerline Champ 500s. The white Z stripes on the top of the car are over Hugger Orange. The bottom of the car is spotless with original chassis paint including the paint daubs on the drag link, etc. The original factory PTBs are on the firewall. (that's a biggy for resto freaks) Don't ask for a picture, she has a layer of teak dust on her. Oh, she is at LEAST TWICE as fast as that damn 944 and handles MUCH BETTER. But, it's a hotrod. Seven years ago an appraisal that didn't include a lot of the stuff mentioned above, came in at $40,000.00. And that didn't count that I am the original and only owner. You talk about a head turner. We haven't had her out once in ten years that people don't shout at us, even from the top of buildings. If I forget to keep the gargage door closed, the UPS deliveries will be late. And at car shows people swarm around her and all early Camaros and ignor the 'vetts. I saved the original window sticker but my mother threw it out. She didn't think it was worth anything. The reproductions (fake) are big bucks. Oh, I paid $4410.00 with tax and license.

Boats, cars,RV's, what else?

I just read this whole damned thread ( no comments about my sanity for having done this. I got up early this morning and got hooked on it.) Soooo.... I echo someone else's opinion that the best boat is the one which is currently getting us from point A to point B. We all have wish lists, and it appears that some of us have pockets deep enough to fulfill them. For the rest of us, remember that we are all out on the water at the mercy of the wind and waves and that's why we hoist the sails whether they are state of the art or old and blown out. By the way, Cliff, this is a heck of a way to find out the Red Dog is crippled!!!! Tom

If you were close I would bring my drool bucket over to look at it. I have always loved muscle cars, it was a tough call on buying the 951. I was looking at a 71 Mustang also but wanted more creature comforts than the stang had. I had a 84 Mustang GT that we bought new sold it and regreatted it ever since. I just wanted a car that when you looked at it you went "Man, That is really cool" But I wanted some modern features that some of the older Muscle Cars did not offer. I also wanted the don't see every day effect. Keep Sailing Cliff

F

Fred Ficarra

Thanks Cliff, nice comments

I would be rich with a nickel for each time I heard "wish I hadn't sold it". When a new creature comfort comes along, I wait until the time is right and install it. Next up, now that the boat is done is VintageAir conditioning. They got their start on '69 Camaro's. Just like those after market hoods that are on everything these days. Yep, my hood. (I installed my son's '69 Camaro A/C evaporator on my boat twelve years ago) So yeah, I won the lottery. It was close once, nearly sold it. The '70s were depressing if your a car freak. And Tom, I'm not rich. I'm a retired cop for Gods' sake. This car is blood and sweat money just like our boat. I can do it BECAUSE I'm retired. (and my wife works) :)

T

Tom Ehmke

;) Your wife works... that explains everything!!

So does mine. I still have a year to go before retirement. I'm a teacher. I'm not sure whether I want a Porsche or a Jaguar. Hang on... here we go again!!! Tom
