Catalina Rigging Standard? vs Tall?

My husband and I are considering buying a 30' Std rigged boat, what is the difference between the std and the tall?

I like the TR

I have an 88 tall rig and love it. The mast is taller and the draft is deeper but the increased sail area makes her sail faster.I sail in Lake Erie which has been really shallow in recent years and the deeper draft can be a problem during Fall and early Spring. You may want to consider that depending on where you sail.We also get lighter winds during high pressure weather cells and the added sail area comes in handy.I had a choice when i bought this boat and if I had to do it again I would get the TR.

Depends on Local Conditions

A lot depends on what the winds are like where you sail. For example, tall rigs are popular in southern California where the winds are typically light. In San Francisco Bay, where the winds are brisk, a standard rig would be a bettter choice. Not only is the tall rig sail area greater, the center of effort is going to be higher than on the standard rig which means a little more heeling.

Tall rigs rule!

I have a tall rig and love it! Not only is it faster and livelier, but it has a neat looking bowsprit. But, if you prefer less heel, go with the standard.
