Yes, it is a re-power, maybe
Generally the engines were Universals, M25, M25XP, M30 and up. The factory, however, was known to "take what was around" during crunch time to finish a boat. They made almost 1,000 in just a few years. If you know the hull (sail) # I can do some further investigation. We do, also, have a member who personally re-powered with a Perkins and is quite knowledgeable about that engine (and happy with it).

My 270 is a '94 and it came from the
factory with a Perkins while later boats mostly have a Universal. As Stu pointed out Catalina used both engines in different models at times. I like my Perkins and haven't heard of any particular problems with other Perkins engines.
