Catalina 310 Staten Island
Last week, I went out to my boat at its mooring in Staten Island's Great Kills harbor. Discovered water in the cabln almost up to the engine. Lucky for me, the NYC fireboat came along and pumped it out. I was towed to Atlantis Marina and hauled out. Noticed dirty water leaking out of the affected through Hull. Left if for two days in jackstands to look for other leaks. None were noted. Here are some pictures of the affected fitting. Does the outside look like it is missing a piece?

@Muttondressedaslamb , sorry to hear about your near sinking. The things that heart attacks are made of :yikes: .

The only thing that looks suspicious (if my eyes don't deceive me), is picture IMG_8433.JPG.

If the exterior mushroom is in fact missing, why is the area surrounding "where it was" now covered with blue bottom paint ? Or was this thru-hull replaced at some previous time by a PO ?

Is IMG_8481(2).JPG a nearby thru-hull which was still in good condition ? Are they the same thru-hull ? Not clear at this point.

All pictures are of the same fitting, taken from different perspectives. Went back to the boat to check the corresponding thru hull in the bathroom sink. Looks like I am missing a piece

Looks fine to me, just a flush mount thru hull
just spoke to Grant Coney at Coney's Marine in Long Island, a long time Catalina dealer. He said that that fitting looks normal from the outside, and there is a good chance that water is coming in between the hull on the inside and the plywood block, with rotting of the old wood. Time to break out my old Craftsman drill press and Off to Harbor Freight for a hole saw set

I'd never use plastic throug hhulls below the water line but it's just me.
any kind of wood backing plates will eventually get soft from moisture and loosen up. if checking and tightening through hulls is not part of your maintenance routine, guess whose fault it was!

Can you zero in on the location of the piece you "think" you are missing. Tight close up shot. The piece that is present in the head sink thru hull but is missing in the galley thru hull that leaked so badly ?

PS I still say you have the best avitar on the site however your previous one was even better.

Have you checked th hose attached to that thru-hull?

The photos don’t look that bad…maybe the hose is cracked.

Good one, Greg. I suggested the same in reply #2. :)

The video - I wish that guy would stop clearing his throat! But the point is taken. I had quite a few rotten hoses at about 25 years.

Yes you did @jviss. I never saw a response from the OP.

“That guy” is me. I had a cold or a frog in my throat! But point well taken…I will need to be aware of how clearly that comes through on the video ;-)
