Catalina 31, two or three blade prop

We are buying a new 310 and would like information about which Catalina prop performs better on an inland lake, two or three blade. Speed, maneuverability, etc.

We have the 3 blade prop

We ordered our 310 with the 3 blade prop. It provides a little more speed under power and doesn't slow the boat down that much. Maneuverability under power is very good. Very little prop walk and the boat will turn just about within it's length, less if you use foward and reverse.

I agree--go with three

I can't think of one good reason not to go with a three bblade prop.

C320 with 3-Blade

I have the 3-blade too. Many rant about drag, etc. but (as a cruiser) I frankly haven't noticed it. Having the extra push-power when maneuvering in a marina or running up the coast is nice. EVERY prop has "prop-walk" -- it's just the physics of the thing.Just make sure the diameter & pitch are properly sized to your engine & transmission.Also, lock the transmission in Reverse gear when sailing to keep the shaft from rotating. That can save you a whole lot of trouble with your transmission later. Many transmissions don't get properly lubricated unless the engine is running.
