Catalina 309 to be IntroducedThe all new Catalina 309 was introduced to the dealers at the Catalina dealer meeting at the Annapolis Boat Show. Hull #001 is scheduled to make her debut at Strictly Sail in St. Petersburg, Fl. in early November. Base price is expected to be around $88,000 and with complete sail-a-way package for just under $100,000.

Where are they going to build them ?

Suppose I'm dreaming to think they are going to built out here on the West Coast at the Woodland Hills factory, don't they make they 30' here in Calif.?

C309 preliminary

The layout drawing that the link leads to is interesting in that the interior looks very similar to the current C30, a more traditional layout. I wonder if this is maybe a replacement for that boat. It also appears to be a fractional rig, which would be a major departure for Catalina. I can’t wait to see the specs. It may be a C30 replacement, or it might be something really new. Something on the sporty side.Another observation is that even though the Catalina Yachts website is under construction, they don’t currently have a link for the C30!

With an in-mast furling system, I kind of doubt it will be that sporty. Just a thought.

I saw that too

I'm tending to lean towards the C30 replacement theory. I read on the CY site that C30 production was down to just a couple dozen boats a year lately. It might make sense that they would want to offer a 30' boat of newer design for people that don't like the C310 concept. The fractional aspect of the rig, if true, is still intriguing. I think the balance of sail area between the headsail and mainsail has been shifting towards the mainsail in some of the newer boats. The C310 is more biased towards the main than maybe any previous Catalina. A fractional rig may be the next logical progression. We should find out more soon.
