Has anyone converted their older C30 external halyards to internal. I would appreciate any guidance. I'd like to do it without dropping the mast.
Thanks.
How old is the boat?
Chances are that you cannot do this with the mast in the boat.
1] The early mastheads do not have halyard access under the sheeves.
2] The wire harness inside the mast must be inside a conduit, the early masts need to have the conduit added.
3] You have to cut holes in the mast for the halyards to exit and keep the halyards from fouling things like the compression post at the spreaders, each other, and the wiring. Spacing and location of the Halyard exits is a one time shot, measure thrice and cut once.
With the mast out of the boat, you can pull the masthead casting off the mast (unless you have a very early boat with a welded masthead fitting) and modify it for internal halyards. With the mast out it is relatively easy to remove the wire harness and install a conduit for the harness, with the masthead casting off, it is easy to see how the halyards will route inside to clear the internals. If you plan to lead any halyards aft, you will need turning blocks at the mast step. When the mast is out it is easy to remove the step from the deck and add a plate under the step to attach the turning blocks.
This is a pretty big job, taking the mast off the boat is the easy part.
