I recently purchased a 1979 Catalina 30 (best boat for the $$$$ within my budget). It takes al but a herd of mules to get it moving in reverse, and backing out of a slip with more than a 10 knot crosswind is nearly impossible. I have owned 27's and 30's for the last 20 years, but this is the first Catalina. I love the boat, it just doesn't want to move. It came out for the season today, and i found that it has a 2 bladed propeller with what appears to be very little pitch. My question is this: depending on the experience of other C 30 owners, what is the best size and pitch. It has the old standard Atomic 4 and Hurth drive, both in good operating condition. Can someone offer me some suggestions or guidance? Thanks for your interest and help.
