Hi all,

I am curious if anyone has experienced cracking like this in their bilge and if it is cause for concern. Sorry it is not a great shot. That is just dust at the bottom. Bilge is quite dry, just these cracks that concern me.

It just looks like paint flaking up - nothing to worry about. Welcome to the forum!

Thanks. Do you know if those plates are normal in this model, or if someone added those? Also, how thick is the paint in a bilge? Tough to see in the pics, but I bet the part flaking is close to 1.5/16"

Welcome to the forum @haagermeister. Sounds like this Catalina 25 might be your first boat. Congrats. Time to get your fingers dirty opening up all of the holes and compartments searching for all that is hidden. It is the very nature of "new to you" boats.

Suck the dust up and you may get a few paint chips. That will address the question, "How thick is the paint?"

Wash out the bilge and you'll earn a lot about the boats construction. Some times previous owners install things. Sometimes they improve the boat sometimes not. It is one of the joys to experience taking ownership of a mature boat. Leave the things alone that are working. Fix only the issues that are not.
Go sailing as much as you can.
