Introducing "Li'l Addie"

Again, I appreciate all the great advice and input that I was given from my original post. I'll be taking delivery of my first saillboat on Monday, July 27th. Two and a half years ago, a friend asked me to go sailing with him in Galveston Bay. I had never been before and was a little anxious about the whole thing. He was test sailing a brand new 36' Beneteau. It was a moderatly windy day. A beautiful day for sailing. Needless to say, I was hooked. My wife and I took Basic ASA lessons two years ago and it's taken me this long to find "Li'l Addie". As I mentioned in an earlier post, my new granddaughter, Addilyn Grace, was born the same day I closed the deal. So, it was easy to come up with a name that fit our Catalina 22.

The Admiral and I know that we are going to have many years of great sailing together. I've posted a couple of pics of "Li'l Addie". Thanks again and you'll be hearing from me in the near future with many questions.

Ahhhh... So pretty.

A pointer: That built-in anchor locker is notorious for leaking into your v-berth. This is a common problem with many lengths of Catalinas from this era. There is a joint made between the hull and the deck form, and then a hole is drilled through, exiting the front of the hull. Over time it is easy for the joint to fail, compromising the water-tight integrity of the drilled "tube" and you will find a leak that runs from the narrow part of the berth down one side of the boat or the other. There are many documented fixes. I think if you searched here you would find a few repair recommendations.

On L.L.attitues, I installed a length of refrigerator ice-maiker tubing through the drilled hole, being very liberal with 4200. I inserted the tubing from the anchor locker, applying lots of 4200 to hopefully fill the small void between the tube and the drilled hole. I left the tube proud on both ends, and filleted the tube's entrance and exit on both sides so I had effectively sealed any water from going through, except for through the tube.

I waited a few days for the 4200 to cure really well, and then I carefully trimmed the excess tubing from both sides of the repair, trimming very carefully on the exterior to make the exterior exit as "fair" as possible.

Voila, no more water in the v-berth, no wet foam, and no more slowly rotting teak plywood bulkheads... The fix can leave the exit tubing slightly higher than the anchor locker floor. If you want the anchor locker floor to totallly drain, I recommend the epoxy pour as shown at Boyd Godfrey's website: http://www.catalinathirty.com/index.html (actually his entire projects section will have you drooling). the specific anchor locker mod Boyd implemented is shown here:

Congrats again!

Have a good weekend!

C22 Jib sheet

Congratulations. You may want to consider checking the routing of the port jib sheet. It appears to be going inside the shrouds in the second picture - hard to tell from the picture, but check it anyway.

Thanks Stu and Phil. The jib sheet is on the outside of the shroud. When I took this pic, the boat was still at the previous owners slip. I'll probably run the jib sheets out and around the stanchions and then back in through the block.
