If the discussion is about the base mast step, it would not need 2 pins I would not think. One reason sailors only use 1 pin is to be sure and not forget and then try to lower the mast with the forward pin still in. That will damage the foot unit. As long as you have shroud lines all around and snugged up, the mast will work fine with 1 pin. It isn't going anywhere! Chief

Interesting. Makes sense. I have never had a boat with a mast that sat on pins. Other boats that I own have a bolt running through bottom of mast that acts as a hinge when raising or lowering mast.

I just bought this used boat and have yet to raise or lower the mast on my Capri 15. All info sure helps as i work through this. Will set boat up in the Spring...that will allow me to make more sense of things.
