Hi,

I bought a 1977 Capri Coronado 15. Was wondering about how to step mast. It appears that the stepping plate inside the boat should have two pins for the mast to sit on. (mine only has one) Am I right or wrong...does it only require one pin?

Does anyone have any pictures on how to rig the boat?

Would appreciate and and all help!!!

Thanks,

Bryan D.

Hi! I just purchased a 1972 model myself in the spring. I will take a picture the plate tomorrow- but, yes, it is two pins.

My issue is covering the cuddy cabin- there is evidence of a past seal on mine, but I don't know how to cover it now. Can you help me on that one?

I am currently waiting for a new rudder/tiller assembly from the factory as mine sunk in a capsize (don't ask). I want to find a way to lock it in place to avoid such a costly mistake in the future!

My boat has been modified some by past owners for racing/fine-tuning rigging, so I don't know if my rigging pictures would be helpful. What exactly are you trying to rig?

Fair winds to you,
Liz

Hi Liz,

Thanks for the reply. I thought it was two pins! Makes sense. The previous owner sailed with only one pin...kinda risky...maybe?

My cuddy is sealed with a formed piece of teak that includes a turn lock at bottom to hold in place. Would be more than happy to take pictures and send so you can see what i mean. (a picture is worth a thousand words!)

Rigging, not so concerned about...have sailing experience...was just curious to see how others might this small boat...do my own thing i guess.

Fair winds to you as well,

Bryan

A picture of the cover would be great. My son was going to try to fashion something that would work.

Will do. Not sure how this website works as far as posting pics...but can send to another email address of your choice.

About to get real cold in Minnesota. Starting to get boat ready for hibernation. Until warm warm breezes blow again...ahhh!

Hey Liz,

Find enclosed pics of cuddy cover. one, cuddy attached to boat, two front side, and three.. back side of cuddy cover with latch. Is it factory??? Or homemade??? Hope this is helpful to you. A cover could be made easily if at all handy with wood. Do your own thing...See attached files to veiw pics...

Would like to see pics of your boat...Do you sail with mast Straight up and down with this boat??? Have read different stuff saying best to sail mast forward and back...what???

Thanks!

Bryan

Thank you so much! Pictures are helpful. I haven't gotten over to my boat yet to take pictures of step plate. I am not familiar with alternate mast settings.

Sorry for the delay. This is the step plate with two pins on my boat. Hoping to get out next week and enjoy more of our Southern California weather. Got sidelined by a surgery for a bit there but I think I'm up to it again.

Hey Liz!!

Thanks for the photo. This makes more sense to me. Thinking the guy I bought the bought from was sailing with only one pin. He told me the boat didn't sail very well just on the mainsail..with jib up much better. Maybe the one pin method had something to do with it!

You really know how to hurt a guy! I just put my 15 away for the winter. We're expecting a early winter storm here in Minnesota that could put down 1 to 10" of snow. Way to early for that stuff. Oh well, can't stop the weather! Wish I could get out and sail!!

If you would like dimensions on hatch cover i can get you them in the Spring..let me know what you come up with...would be interested. I am going to send my sail in over the winter months and have sail slugs sown in. Makes raising the main sail much easier.

Wishing you great sailing!!!

Bryan,
Do you recall how the tiller is fastened to the rudder head? A screw? A locking pin? My factory bought tiller has a very thin hole at the end but it seems too thin to be practical...? Thanks! Keep warm! I was born and raised in Chicago but fear my blood has thinned out quite a bit to tolerate the snow.

Hey!

Hopefully attached photos's will help. The hole you're I think you're talking about is just a pivot hole so rudder is free to move up and down (north and south wise)

As photo's show...mine is attached with a looks to be a 3/16 diameter round headed bolt (3.0" long) with a wing nut to adjust tension of movement up and down.

I can take more photo's if this doesn't explain it well. Let me know.

I would imagine to give the tiller some strength. My tiller was snapped off about 5 inches before the block by previous owner. Going to have new tiller made...right now is 2 X 2 cast aluminum...have know idea how they broke tiller. I think the block you are talking about marry the tiller and rudder together as one piece??? Don't know what you bought and from where...Be glad to help any way I can...business you bought it from offer anything...in terms of assembly parts needed to complete rudder and tiller assembly for boat???

Let me know...

What?? I looked all over for alternates to rudder/tiller. Paid factory half of what I paid for boast. No directions on what to do- using artistic license! ;). I just need to secure tiller to ruddsr head- I'll figure something out. My son had to leave before he could make a cuddy cover so I need to figure that out also now. It's always something, eh? Hopefully, I'll get out tomorrow. :)

I made it work for now- love those cotter pins! We were able to get out and enjoy a light breeze under an overcast sky. Of course, some of the fixes took longer than I anticipated so that cut into daylight hours, but we did get some time in. Planning on going out again on Sunday. So, how do you spend your landlubber hours?

Glad to hear you found a solution...at least temporary...hope it is safe.

Landlubber time is spent refinishing wood on two sailboats, prepping boats for upcoming season...buying stuff that i wish i had previous season...you know how it is.

Have three sailboats...two that are water ready...keeps me going along with home remodel projects...some ice fishing...plus working a ton...keeps me off the streets :) Winter time in Minnesota...I do my best to keep busy.
