There are two smaller hatches on my 36-2 around 12 inches square. One is for the head the other in the aft cabin. With the configuration of my dodger, I cannot open more than a couple of inches with the dodger in place. I am considering turning them 180 degrees so they open aft rather than forward and then would be able to be well open to at least 45 degrees. Has anyone done this. Is it feasible.

Sure, just take 'em out and reverse them. A little research on the manufacturer(s) of hatches will show you how they are built. Many older boats installed them with 5200 (Satan's Glue!
), so they may be difficult to remove. Once out, rebed them with butyl tape.
