catalina mk II 34' Atlantic Highlands NJ
Hello all. :confused: Does anyone have advice concerning DC cabin lights on a 34' MKII? When i switch on cabin lights on switchboard only the head cabin light goes on so it appears control panel switch is good. Other cabin lights have raqrely just popped on by themselves, and then mysteriously go off. Light in head which is also controlled by that switch gives no trouble. I don't want to go ripping down panels if there is something simple I'm overlooking. Any advise out there? Thank you in advance. SA

Open up the panel and check the butt connectors that run the wiring out to the saloon fixtures. Check the butt connectors between the fixtures and the wires behind the outboard edge of the hull deck joint. Use a dvm to check for voltage. Your manual shows where the wires are run. If you don't have a manual, you can download one from our C34 website.

I have a similar question. The ceiling light over the settee in my 1977 Catalina 30 has not worked in years. I had a friend who is an electrician check the wires and they are dead. I need to know if those particular wires lead straight back to the panel, or are they off-shoots from another set of main wires? I want to replace them, but need to know where to look for the source on the other end.

Look for a C30 manual, if you don't have one, try the C30 Association website.

IrishWake;

I have a 77 Catalina 30, which for the most part has been rewired.

The cabin lights including the 2 in the foreberth, the 1 in the head and the 2 in the main salon (both over the setee and the galley) are blue and black and run through the head liner aft. They come out of the structure just behind the galley bulkhead in the aft deep storage comparment.

All the wiring comes out here, including the mast lighting, cabin lights and running lights.

You'll see alot of mods where owners rerun their cabin lights via homemade external runners.

Here is the link to the original wiring diagram. It's a bit hard to read, but you can trace the individual wiring back...

Good luck

Check out Neil2099's info page. He has some great pictures and a sweet lighting setup...
