86 Catalina 27 tall rig has lights in the galley and head that has a slider switch. They have 2 light bulbs. Are these lights 12 volt on one side and and 110 on the other side?

most likely...

they are probably 12V. Sounds like the typical plastic ones they use on RVs too. The slider is 1 lamp - 2 lamp - off. Easy to test - unplug shorepower. Cheers, Rob

It's a little more than that I think

I can't get them both to work. 12v bulb works ok but not 2 12v in the same fixture.

switch?

take the bulb that works and put it in the other position. if it doesn't light, chances are that the switch is the problem. it may be corroded. take the fixture apart and check it out. it might be time to replace the entire fixture. rob is right about how it works - 1 light, 2 lights, off. galley and head are good places to use a clear bulb and a red bulb if you plan to do any night cruising. with the red in the '1 light' position, you can grab something out of the ice box or hit the head without killing your night vision.

Light Switch

More than likely the set up is like mine....the two lights are both 12v. Switch one way lights one the other way both come on....I have had lots of trouble with the contacts on the switch....try pushing the slider in as you slide left and right. This sometimes works, and sometimes doesn't. Must have been made in China....Good luck...DAVE
