C34 deck flex over sliding companionway top

I'm looking at purchasing a 2001 C34. I'm sure there is a term for this, but I've not used it. The decking in front of the dodger on this particular boat flexes a little when stepped on... at least more so than on my 28, which is not noticeable. It's also a lot bigger than the 28 companion way. I assume this serves less of a structural job than the rest of the deck, but would like an opinion or others' experience. Is there reason for concern? The rest of the boat is pretty nice.

They are all like that. I've had mine for 25 years. You're looking at a Mark II. You could also ask here on our C34 forum, tons of information that is boat-specific:

The dodger deck fasteners often leak water into the deck core.

There is a turnbuckle ( on keel stepped) that runs from the overhead to the mast. This is to offset the effect of the halyards lifting the cabin top and should be tensioned before halyards are used ( at the season's start). If you are keel stepped and the turnbuckle is not in place, you may be experiencing your weight offsetting the halyards..

My Mark II is keel stepped.
Joe white,

Interesting, Catalina introduced the MK11 at the Atlanta boat show in 1995 with hull number 1295. Catalina had MK1s with sugar scoops and walk thru beginning in 89. Curious what's your hull number?
