C320 split backstay question

Since the C320 has a split backstay, am I right in assuming that if you take a tension guage reading on either split, it will be incorrect, as the stays share the real load, which is between the top of the mast and the split point? If that is the case, what is the suggested tension reading for the split stays ?

Backstay Tension

Check the C320 Association site for more info on rig tuning. Scroll down the left side of the main page and click on an "Older Story" called Rig Tune and Sail Selection. Many of us have followed the advice of the sailmaker who wrote the article. Some of the recommendations are more suited to a boat that is rigged for racing, but as to the backstay/forestay tension we've found him to be fairly accurate.

The mathematics of rig tension

I had the same issue with respect to my C36 Mk. II, Wind Angel and with the help of those more knowledgeable than myself at the math, I was able to create a table on a MS Excel Spreadsheet that calculated the resulting load on the backstay based upon the tension applied to the splits. The analysis was done last year and was published in the February 2004 issue of "Mainsheet " under the C34 section pp.38-39. Essentially, in order to induce a tension of 1,800 lbs. (15% of the breaking stregth of 5/16" 1x19 wire), approximately 630 lbs. of tension needs to be applied to the splits. I was able to create an excel spreadsheet to use a a reference for my C36's adjustable backstay using a Loos Tension Gauge (see attached.)But the formulation is essentially a function of the length and the positioning of the stays involved.
