We are considering moving up from our Capri 22 with a 4'3" fin keel to a C27 tall rig, with the shoal draft keel which I understand is a 3'6" keel. This is a 1976 boat with an outboard. I love the stability of the fin keel on our Capri. Any thoughts or comments on the shoal draft keel versus the fin keel. Sailing will be almost entirely on an inland lake that is 35 miles long and up to 5 miles wide. The wind usually does not exceed 20 - 25 mph tops, and on those days its usually because of thunderstorms and we all stay off the lake . . . . Most days wind is in the 5-15 mph range. Thanks George

rockin and a rollin

I have a 1974 27 foot std rig shoal keel. All I can say is. If there are allot of power boats on the lake. Bow into the wakes or you'll be rocking and rollin all day long. Mine sails great its just big wakes from power boats hitting me broadsides send us rockin and rollin. Other than that no problems. Good luck, Joe

Probably fine

Unless you're a performance sailor, you probably won't notice that big a difference. I think the only thing you'll notice is that you can't point quite as high as a fin keel but it's certainly not a slug! If it's available and looks like a good deal, go for it. LaDonna
