I HAVE CATALINA 27 STANDARD RIG WITH A TILLER. WHILE IT IS OUT OF THE WATER FOR BOTTOM PAINT I FOUND SOME PLAY IN THE RUDDER BEARINGS. HOW MUCH IS NORMAL? IF THEY NEED TO BE REPLACED, HOW DIFFICULT IS IT? ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.
Danny, I had my rudder shimmed because: 1) while under sail I could feel a little rudder shimmy, 2) the rudder did not feel smooth as it was moved, and 3)it was so easy to fix while the boat was out of the water. I think it is a two person job because of the weight of the rudder. Drop the rudder and wrap a sheet of teflon around the rudder post until the post fits snuggly. That's it. good luck, bob
