I am looking to buy a 1976 c27. Overall I like the boat but I do have a couple of questions. 1) The starboard bulkhead needs to be replaced, I know this is fairly common out there. It does not seem to be a very difficult project to do yourself, so my question is.. how difficult is it, and what is the estimated cost? 2) This boat had a teak and holly sole installed by one of the previous owners, this seems to have removed some of the head room. I am 5'10" and can stand without any problems under the closed companion way hatch, have to bend my head a little in the main cabin, and defintely can't stand in the head area, since the floor in the head area was raised a few inches. I'm not sure why this was installed (for looks, or was there something wrong with the fiberglass sole). My question is.. does the c27 have 6' head room throughout the main cabin and head areas, or is the step in the head area standard? I have not been able to get aboard another c27 to find out myself, and any imput would be appreciated.

Headroom

The headroom you're describing sounds about right. I can't imagine the sole reducing the headroom more than 1/2" at most throughout the boat. The "step" you refer to in the head might have been built up to eliminate the curve it normally has but can't be sure without seeing it. I'm 5'6" & can't stand upright in the head either (mine wasn't modified either). LaDonna

c27 Bulkheads

I had a 1975 C27 and replaced the bulkheads. I upgraded to 1/2 inch marine plywood and put on white laminate. The white laminate makes the boat appear much larger inside. it is very important that you seal the top edges of the bulkhead with West epoxy. this prevents the water the leaks by the chain plates from delaminating the plywood. I also bolted the bulkhead into the hull tabs with larger bolts. the factory bolts were only 1/4 inch. It is a good winter project.
