I'm curious of what others have done to modify their traditional interior dining table so that it's lighter and easier to handle. We use ours for both eating and sleeping and it's always a hassle. I've thought of making a replacement in marine teak plywood which should be lighter. I've also toyed with some options using bulkhead mounted track that would allow me to raise and lower it without removing it. I guess I haven't come up with a concept that I'm satisfied enough with to try it. What have you done?

Smaller table

Because I put an A/C up against the main bulkhead and covered it with a seat (and used the third cushion to cover that seat), I now have a table that that sits on two screw in pedestals (sp?. That table is the same width but almost two feet shorter. Easy to handle. When we race I take the table down and throw it on the quarter berth along with the screw in pedestals. My very attractive teak bulkhead is now always showing.

Moved table

On our C-30 we moved the table bottom support to the forward side of the head compartment. The table is then in the head, not taking up any room.(just opposite the wall from where it originated) A block of teak replaced the bottom support in the cabin so the table can still be used as a bed when needed. We then replaced the table with a teak one that is much smaller and freestanding. It is held in place with two bungee cords to the floor. It doesn't move, yet can be taken down easily if a bed is needed. Leaves much more room in the cabin. JSwords
