Is the rear berth in a Catalina 30 large enough for two adults to sleep comfortably or is it more appropriate for just one? Thanks for your input.

Not much headroom for the second person

The quarter berth is my favorite place for sleeping. It's quieter when on the hook, allows me to pop up to check whatever and is a great reading space. However, when my wife is aboard it doesn't work well for two. The space under the cockpit has too little headroom. One stares at the ceiling a scant few inches away and neither of us want to be there. We usually make up the main salon berth.

nor is there any feet room :)

In the quarter berth if you have wheel steering there is no room for your feet for the second person. I have an 1983.

Unwarranted prejudice against the V-berth

Rob slept in the quarter berth till I came along. No WAY was I sleeping in a 3 inch crawl space!! He'd never once slept in the V-berth before

Reply to C30 Aft sleeping

I made an extension platform of 2 ft wide that slides out and this gives us head room with much needed comfort.

Cooler Extension to the quarterberth

We usually sleep in the quarter berth. The trick is to use a standard size cooler placed next to the companionway and the chart table. We attached snaps for the small armrest cushion to set ontop of the cooler. It is the perfect size
