1984 C 30 While in the cabin today with snow melting on the deck , I noticed water very slowly dripping from one of the screw holes (where a screw had been pulled out)in the overhead where the door to the V bunks is located. Right between the hanging locker and the head. Anyone have an idea where the water may be leaking in from? Have seen the same thing in a heavy rain too. Thanks, Bob

Leaks from Overhead

Bob, That is an area pretty high up on the deck. My guess is that you have a leak somewhere near the mast? Is anything near the leak higher?

Some of this is obvious and please don't think I'm insulting anyone (sometimes I need to be told the obvious). You need to find the source of the leak. Try some colored water (food dye or colored boat soap etc) 1st try a test area to see if the color will wash out later. After you find the leak, it is important to dry out the path the water has taken lest you have delamination of the deck later. The book "This Old Boat" has good how to directions. Also "Fiberglass Repairs" both are available thru West Marine. My boat has some moisture in the deck. We are drying it out by removing stantions etc and letting it dry under shrink wrap through the winter. Then epoxying and re-drilling bolt holes in the spring. No UV from the sun, but most of the drying will be from the low humidity of winter air. Joe
