Buying and cutting G10

McMaster-Carr sells G10, I bought a sheet to use for backing plates for thru hulls. I can’t speak to the price point versus Defender but I recommend shopping around. An industrial supplier might be cheaper than a marine supplier.
G10 is not that hard to cut I used a Sabre saw to make circles, but it was really tough to shape it to the curve of the hull.

Use unthickened epoxy to laminate the G-10 layers and thickened epoxy underneath to bed the new post level.
Rough up the faces for better adhesion.

Wet tile saw makes quick work of G10, plus you can contour each piece as you go on a wet tile saw w/o risking loosing a finger.

I had some G10 for my rudder post support cut and drilled by sendcutsend.com. They used water cut to shape and drill the G10 and some delrin bushings. Certainly cost more than diy but not unreasonable by boat standards.
Check out the website, they work with many materials including stainless steel.
