Our offer, with contingencies, was accepted. Now the surveying process begins. Does anyone have suggestions for a surveor in Seattle? I'll need to choose one by next wed. Also one of the contingencies is a strong odor which did not seem like diesel but gasoline. The owner says no gas ever aboard????? Any thoughts? Thankyou for any and all comments!

boat inspection

Re: boat inspection With past inspection background for both a city and private concern and a boat owner (catalina 36) I would suggest that you contact several local surveyors and get a list of what they will be looking for during inspection.eg: blisters, struts, functional plumbing, radio and electrical equiptmnt etc,etc..You will gain knowledge as you speak to each surveyor. Contact another 30 Catalina owner if possible to check for inherent problems....THEN__go thru the boat with the surveyor and a recorder to get ALL the info...If anyone balks at these suggestions, then look elsewhere!! good luck Gary

Strong Odor

Check to see if Your boat may have a kerosene heater, lamp or white gas stove. Any leaks from those may be causing the odor.

Seattle Surveyor

I too bought a Catalina 30 '87 in Seattle in April of this year. I used a surveyor by the name of Ron Reisner,Office (206)285-8194, Mobile phone # (206)399-0690. I was pleased with the job he did for me. I went through the boat with him and took notes in addition to what he wrote up for the survey. The good surveyors get booked up, so it can take a while to get someone lined up ahead of time. Mine was very clean and in excellent shape. The former owner was meticulous, so I had a good feeling about it. Hope your purchase goes well for you.

Ron has associates

Ron has a firm that does surveys and I've used his partners several times. They've all been thorough and fair for me as both buyer and seller.
