Bushings For Pintels And Gudgeons

So my anti vibration solution works really well, but as always I am seeking improvements on my solution. With the weight on the tiller (see picture) it makes it a lot quieter, however it looks so make shift and unattractive. Does anyone or has anyone installed a delrin bushing into the pintel so when the the rudder is installed a tighter fit with no space for vibration is found?

On my previous Macgregor I found a brass plumbing fitting at Home Depot that I could cut-off and use as a bushing. It worked very well. The ID was 1/2 inch, exactly what was required and I simply drilled out the gudgeon to make it fit snug.

Fred, would there be any metalurgy issues with the stainless steel inserted into a brass fitting? I am not familiar with the dynamics of metals and the consequences of non compatibility, that's why I am asking.

I don't think there is a problem with brass and stainless steel, never noticed any corrosion on my installation, but someone else on this forum may be able to provide a more definitive answer.

As I am thinking of it now, I recall that I found bronze, 1/2 inch ID, bushings at the local Lowes. This was a surprise find to me. I purchased them but never installed them. In any case you should be able to find bushings on the internet.

This is not exactly the same but I had a vibration on the transom when motoring and at first I thought it was the metal cup holders I had installed on the inside of the transom.
Then by accident I realized it was the ladder pulled up close and tied off. So I pulled it out at a slight angle and fixed a strap to keep it there and could be reached by someone in the water. This took care of my problem. Hope you find a solution to yours.

sailorladyliz, you could be possibly right. I also have some slop in the pintels and gudgeons of the rudder. I think I will research both and what ever the outcome is report back for others to use as guidelines.

Us too. Slop in the rudder mounts.

It makes for a fine thunk thunk thunk all night long at anchor. Its a fine companion to the clunk clink clunk of the keel in its trunk. At least I've found a way of stopping the whack whack whack of the halliards thanks to this site....
