Is there anyone out there that knows if there is a bushing on the rudder tube just above the rudder itself that fits into the rudder post? It looks like there is one and is pretty well worn away. The steering is getting real stiff. I already checked the cable and chain that run through the steering pedestal and they are not binding. My boat is a 1982 C-30.*o

Nylon bearing washer

Steve, I have a 79 C30. I'm assuming yours is just like mine. There are 2 nylon bearing washers. 1 is glued to the top of the rudder tube where it exits into the cockpit and the other is glued to the hull where the tube exits the boat around the water line. Over time the holes become oval shaped and they can make your steering stiff. Both of mine were broken off loose and my rudder was vibrating like crazy under power. I replaced them both this fall when I had the boat in the yards. It does require you to drop the rudder. I glued the new ones in place with 3M 5200. You can order them from Catalina Direct.
