Broken key in the ignition stitch

I had the tip of the key break off in the ignition stitch. I can sill use the broken part to start the engine. I’m lucky to have the tumblers in the right position to be able to turn it. I want to remove the broken tip but when I took out the ignition stitch it didn’t look like there was a backing plate to remove to get insides. There are three small copper screws that look like they are only holding the connectors in place. Is there a plate I can remove after I unscrew the copper screws? Or is there another way to remove this broken tip? (I believe the tumblers are holding the tip in place) Or do I new to get a new ignition stitch? Thanks JOHN

John, I'd go for new switch, you are probably

aware that the tumblers/key are pretty "loose" with these switchs. Have no doubt some could use a paper clip as a key. My current "best" key is supposed to be for a cabinet lock that the hardware store made up for me.

Leave it . . .

I had a guest snap the key off in my ignition switch. It was somethng I always woried about as it's in a bad place on my older C-27. Now I realize it was the best thing to happen. I don't worry about it happening anymore or keping track of the key. I always have hard time keeping track of keys, but I can always find a screwdriver . . . Nick
