any body got any reviews of Bristol sloops---29, 32' range. I'm looking for a boat of this size that's seaworthy, family-friendly and easy for solos. Bristols look good...?

Google them and see if they have reviewed these boats. You will have to pay for their reviews, but they are very good - probably the most frank you will find. Also, did you check Brand Specific forums on this site?

Very narrow-beamed

The ones I've boarded in that size range have been very narrow-beamed; of course, those were of the 70s/80s vintage. Similar to the smaller Cape Dory's; e.g., the Cape Dory 28. BEO

That style of boat

Of course some, myself included consider a narrow boat to be a better offshore boat then the modern boats. The CCA style of boat with long ends and narrow beam has a better motion at sea and is more likely to have a more even forward and aft distribution of underwater volume or curve of area then a modern boat. The shape is more likely to be self-steering then a modern boat. And of course in bad weather it’s easier to move about or stay put in a narrow boat. If you do get knocked about below deck you have less distance to get thrown in a narrow boat. All in all I like the CCA style and own a Tartan 34C for that reason. All the best, Robert Gainer
