My mast is 27' and that doesn't include my Davis Windex or my Shakespeare stubby antenna. The mast sits on the cabin top and that gives me maybe about 3.5' more to the water line. I have to have a draw bridge open for me to get out to the bay from the river. The bridge's vertical height is supposedly 27' at Mean High Water, but the bridge's under structure is oval. Granted, I think that maybe it's possible for my boat to fit under this bridge without an "Open" at a Spring Tide Low, but there's no way in heck that I'm going to try it. He can open it. I've actually had guys on top of the bridge holler down at me and say, "you can get under there without having him open it!" I've only been having this bridge opened for my boat since about 1986, and lately I've been getting inquiries from the bridge tender about how high my mast is. I just tell him that it's 27' on top of the cabin. Let him figure it out if he wants to, but he's still going to open that bridge or I'm calling the Coast Guard on him. I've lost one mast and I'll never take a chance on losing this one. If you have a 222 and your mast is a Z-Spar, chances are that it's 27' long like mine. What you could do is put up a step ladder if the boat is on the trailer right now, and measure from the waterline and eye ball it at the Tabernacle and see exactly what you come up with. When things get close though, I don't take any chances. Even if my mast could fit under that bridge at low tide, I don't want to take any chances of losing a $40.00 Davis Windex.

I really don't think so. If your mast is Z-Spar with internal halyards like mine, definitely not. O'Day used about three different mast companies, so I'm told. I think that all the masts and spars were the same size for the design of this boat. Measure your mast, then measure down from the Tabernacle to the waterline and that will give you an exact measurement. I know of a guy who lives in Essex CT. that had the same problem. He knew that an O'Day 22 short mast stubby keel boat could fit under this certain fixed bridge in the area in which he sails, because he had an O'Day 22 before he bought his O'Day 23. He wasn't happy with the 23, so he gave it to his son and bought an O'Day 22 similar to the one he had. He's very happy with it. Perhaps there is a yacht club on the other side of this bridge that you could join and moor your boat there. That's what I'd do.

A scale measurement of O'Day's drawing gives a bridge clearance of 30 ft., 6 in. for the 222. Based on measurments of my 1984 222, actual clearance is 30 ft.

Add radio antenna, Windex, and any other masthead 'goodies' to get total height.
I agree that you need more than 30 ft. of bridge height to be sure on no collisions.

The 192 Bridge clearance is 28 ft......
.....according to my manual. The 222 is proportionally larger so I doubt you will clear a 28' 6" bridge. If you can locate your manual, or even the specs from a brochure, it may indicate the height of the boat above the waterline.
