I am painting my 1981 Cat 30 for the first time & want to know how much paint I will need. I plan on using Petitt "Trinidad" over existing Woolsey "neptune" (both Epoxy) if that makes any difference. Any info. would help Thanks in advance. P.S. I tried searching the archives with (suprisingly) no luck.

One Gallon

I use one gallon of Trinidad for two coats on my C-30. I don't know if the different undercoat will matter however.

3 coats

I'd say a gallon should do for a good 3 coats. I got four+ coats on my 27 w/one gallon & have done a C30 with a gallon. Ick! Have fun! LaDonna

On my old catalina 27 I was just able to do a bit over 2 coats on the hull with 1 gallon. On my 1982 catalina 30 I expect to need 1.5 gallons for two coats. Always apply extra to the rudder and leading edges of the keel and the underside of the keel. If you are using a paint that builds up over time (trinidad is one), then at some point you will have to remove the excess. Not sure when you will reach that point, but it is something to consider. I am using paint that wears away over time and requires 3 coats. The type you are using should be fine with 2 coats applied heavily. Don't skimp on the application.

I have always used just over a gallon on mine. I noticed you are in Anacortes, My boat "Descente" is in Cap Sante.

Todd, I don't know how much you will need but it does make a difference what types you use, but you are using epoxy over epoxy. so my handy dandy compatibility chart says clean, light sanding and apply.. have fun :) Mike C-38 # 169

I painted my C30 3 yrs ago with Trinidad and used one gallon and 1 1/2 qts. This gave me two coats and a third at the waterline and on the leading edges. A diver cleans the hull yearly and changes the zincs at the same time. I will be repainting this year using the same method. Good luck and see you on the water.
