Am getting ready to install a gaurhaur ridgid boom vang...was wondering what to use to insulate the vang from the boom and mast since they are dissimaler metals
Anything non-conducting will work. I used contact paper from a shelving project that I had laying around. It worked well for me because one side was adhesive and stayed in place. I stuck it on the inside of the fitting and it was easy to trim around the edges. Actually any plastic will work. I have heard of everything from vinyl house siding and plastic "for sale" signs being cut up and placed between the pieces. Even electrical tape would work.Dont forget to insulate the screws too. Dip in Tef-gel or loc-tite.
I use an old rubber bicycle tire tube to separate all stainless items from aluminum spars. Cut to size, it works very well, is not noticeable, and only compresses very slightly. Also add lanolin or winch grease to the threads. You should re-do that every 2 years or so. Good luck
