There's a book that I've read reviews of but can't remember the full name and can't seem to find... it's called something along the lines of "moving up and ..." After a tough week at work, I'm ready for my boat to go in the water next week and thinking about it... If anybody knows the name of this book, I would certainly appreciate it! Thanks.

How About...

...Tom Neal's "All In The Same Boat". That one's not too bad, either?

News story

The Washington Post just did a big story on sailboat livaboards in metro DC as an alternative to the high cost of housing. You can find it in the Post archives.

Katie Burke-Bruce Bingham

Many years ago (70's-80's), their was the Dolphin Book Club where you could buy almost anything nautical at great prices. I do not know if they are still in business, but I just about bought everything I could on "living aboard". One of the best books was "Living Aboard" by the famous nautical architects Katie Burke and Bruce Bingham. These two traveled and lived aboard extensively on the stern seaboard on a Flicka (Bingham design) before moving aboard the 35' Fantasia designed by Bingham as well. The book is more like a coffee table book chocked full of photos, illustrations (Bruce was a featured contributor to Crusing World for decades), alterations, necessities, conversions, and everything else to make living aboard comfortable and enjoyable. Not too much is touched upon engine or system issues as much as, how to make a workroom, convert your v-berth to an office, make your cockpit into a cozy outdoor room, etc. Great stuff and an excellent resource. Anything Katie and Bruce printed, drew or designed were always helpful to fellow sailors. Regards Bob Cat. 30

Sensible Cruising

Not an answer to your question but a great book on cruising that helped shape my ideas on cruising. I have read many books on cruising and this one is the best IMHO. It is a book about doing it now with what you have instead of dreaming about doing it sometime in the future. Living aboard tied to a dock seems like an awful lifestyle. Kinda like living in a camping trailer at a busy KOA. But cruising is still in my dreams. I don't mind living in a tiny space if we are anchored at a new place every week.(day). But even anchored is not my passion. Being under sail and at sea that is happiness.

Living Aboard

Bob,when I was living aboard 1982-1985 sailing from Cape Cod thru leeward and windward Islands I met up with Jan and Bill Moeller aboard their boat "Whiffle" who wrote "Living Aboard" in 1977. There was a lot of good info in their book. I wonder how the two same titles and diffrent authors came about? Dave

Sell up and Sail

Jim, It's called "Sell Up and Sail: Taking the Ulysses Option" by Bill and Laurel Cooper. I have it, it's a good book, a little Euro-centric since the Coopers are British, but well worth buying. Eric
