Bombardier 4.8 missing forestay (I think)

Hi everybody,

I just bought a used Bombardier 4.8, that seems like it is still in good condition. I am fairly novice as both a sailor and rigger, so I managed to track down a 2 page PDF manual on-line, but it is a bit short on pictures and details. From what I can tell I am missing a forestay. The guy who sold it to me insists that all he ever had was the jib furler, and he didn't had a separate forestay. Is there anybody that can confirm that I should have a forestay? I presume it attaches at the same point as the shrouds? I figure if I can measure up the distance I should be able to get one made.

He also said he sailed it without a separate forestay - any thoughts on whether that is a good or bad idea?

The forestay likely runs through the furler. Same attachment points. Can you post a few pics of the furler and rigging?

Some furlers incorporated the headstay into the furler. I think CDI was one of the companies that did this. If you could identify the furler's make or provide photos of it, we'll be better able to advise you.

For my Bandit 15 the wire in the luff of the jib was the forestay. There was a furler - I don't remember the brand.

What is the Furler you have? The detail of the furler will tell you the answer.

Do you want to abandon the furler and replace it with a hanked-on foresail?
