Looks a little chilly but winter sailing is still sailing:) Thanks for the pics. Surely there's a business conference that MUST be attended down in the BVIs. Hope you both have a great new year. We'll be in St Augustine on Sunday looking at a cruising cat(the fiberglass kind). Give a call if you'd like to get some lunch.
All our best to you and yours,
Mike n Kelli
Gonna buy a Tobago Mike?

Question for Brian and/or Stephanie: For your cruise to Cumberland Island did you come up via the ICW or up the coast? Just curious if you had visited any of Georgia's other barrier islands. Thanks.

Cumberland

I am not Brian and I am certainly not Stephanie, but I wanted to comment on Cumberland Island

Keep my boat on Amelia Island. We have been to all the "Golden Isles" and Cumberland is the best because of its minimum human impact.

Because of the lack of development, you cannot buy anything, not even a bottle of water, and whatever you bring on the island you must take off. There are no trash cans. The beaches are empty, the fields are pristine and the forests are almost prehistoric.

A lot of wildlife from horses, deer, boar, alligators, (in the marsh and water holes), bugs (in season), and of course snakes.

If visiting plan on anchoring and dinghy in, the few docks are almost never available.

There is a volunteer fee per person, just put it in the unattended box on the dock. There are a lot of hidden areas to explore, just be mindful of the wildlife.

I have attached a few pictures for your info

John

WTF???

We went from Babes to Birds???

Seriously, to echo what John said, Cumberland Island is a must do if you are heading up/down the ditch or boat in the South Georgia area.

Great pics.

No Tobago/Mahe/Seawind/Gemini cat in the near future. Just looking at this point. As if my dock fees aren't sucking the life out of me yet;). My BB likes to bring friends and do long wknds so a little more room would be nice. I'd like a place for my lazy boy too.

I hear you on the lazy boy Mike. You need a cat for that. I actually sold the 23.5 this fall. I think it is in the Tampa/Clearwater/Sarasota area now. Some guy that teaches sailing bought it.

Hopefully the next purchase for the Admiral and I will be something on the water in SC/NC. Until then I hear I am bunking with Whisper in the vberth on Empty Pockets! Not a bad gig..

Good to hear from you,

Bob

Kayaking to Amelia

Moon sailor

You can kayak to Cumberland from Amelia Island

Although it is only about a 1/2 mile trip it is not a trip for a novice

You must cross St. Mary's inlet with a 2 - 2 1/2 knot current

Send me an e-mail and I will send you detailed info if you are serious

Next trip

Glad to see you and Brian are still around! When is your next trip? We love your stories and pictures! I'm heading down to treasure Island in April, my wife and I might charter a boat for a day, maybe we'll run into you!

Happy Valentine's Day everybody!

I'm heading down to treasure Island in April,
Forgive the intrusion, but are you talking about Norman Island in he BVI's that the book 'Treasure Island' was written about? We last sailed there while cruising in 1979 on "Ocean Gypsy" a Hunter 27 we owned at the time.

Back then my wife looked like Steph and I could have done a commercial for Bowflex. Those were the days, but my-my how times have changed. Now-a-days I'm a candidate for any number of old-timer meds commercials. But my wife, she's still beautiful, at least in my eyes as I still see the young bride I married. I suppose they call it love.

I hit a home run last night with flowers, candy, one of those song-cards and a bottle of her favorite wine. Just giving you youngsters some pointers. Romance never changes! So surprise her today with something special.

Happy Valentine's Day everybody!

Kind Regards,
JonBill
