25 miles of 14ft deep water... Pretty amazing, but also pretty boring, unless you like FL thunderstorms on a wide expanse of very shallow water... Can get pretty chippy out there with waves rolling at extremely short periods. We made it from Port Mayaca Lock all the way to Clewiston in 4 hours with a 20kt tailwind! Sled ride with a lot of surfing! On the way back across, the weather was a lot tamer... We rode the perimeter so we could say we've done both. It was a lot longer to take that route, but the scenery was great! Had one bridge which had to be opened by hand by a kid with a crank handle... Didn't know those old types of bridges were even still in existence! Very cool to see it in action! Just make sure you time the locks as they can really hamper your schedule... We aced it going across, but coming back was a lot longer due to locks under repair, closures, etc. I can definitely recommend a few good stops of you want to make an adventure out of it!Looks fun. How was the crossing on Lake Okeechobee? I have thought about doing it to try some west coast sailing.
