Boarding up ports

higgs I like the way your boats ports are. I want the 6 ports I am replacing to look similar to yours. Though I may only put 4 if I can make it look right.

Then you shoulda bought a Nassau 34, hermit. If you want New Found Metal ports in your cabintop, then a CS-t 36 would work, too.

He's right, but if you are going to keep your boat forever, then it shouldn't matter at all.

You simply will have the most distinctive C30 cabintop known to mankind.

It's very hard to make a MacGregor into a Pacific Seacraft.

When a boat gets to a certain age you can remodel it to suit yourself and as long as you don't get to extreme you will still have a boat that buyers will desire. I have extensively changed my Islander 30 inside and outside and still get an offer about once each year but she is not for sale.

Hooo Yaaa Isn’t there a pretty good curve in the cabin side where the fixed lights on the C 30 are..?? Going to be tough to fit standard opening ports to it?? I dunno… I usually don’t need the extreme dark unless I’ve been discussing MainBrace Splicing with my buddy Sailor Jerry !!!

A little humor

Ed, yes I was going to board them up glass them in and make it darker in the cabin. ... I don't like that much light in the cabin either. I would like smaller ports with dark tint. My apartment I built upstairs in my shop doesn't have a single window either. I like to be able to make it very dark.

Hermit, Saw this post and was really thinking it would be smarter like a few said and just dremel out a little bit around the edges and re-glass with some chop/strand and epoxy.

Your comments above reminded me of this #3 on this link http://www.trolinger.com/david/simulate.html although it is a little different from what I remember.

There was a deluge here so I couldn't start on it. But it's supposed to be clear tomorrow. I am going to attack the side of the boat with a router and probably a 4-1/2" grinder(it always seems to be the appropriate tool for any job).
I don't know how difficult the curve will be to fill with plywood. I may have to cut relief cuts to the plywood and then fill all that with epoxy. I have these pieces of ABS I am going to use to hold the epoxy in place and try to get the surface to be pretty smooth with out too much sanding and filling.

I don't recommend this for the following reason

Certain things like to grow in dark humid environments. Most of tem belong to the fungi family. Your project will soon have enough growth as to provide long term sustenance on your voyages. Make sure you have enough ventilation on this boat during your absences.

I have been leaving a fan running. In the washboards there are slits for ventalation. But I need a real solar ventelator.
