I bought this boat in Nov. 06 and it has always had water in the bilge that I could not trace the source. Now the water is turning Blackish, we have ruled oil as the problem. This week I did discover thet the clean-out port on the fresh tank under the Vbirth is leaking, but I'm not convinced that is the only source and will pursue all othe possibilities, but this bring up several other questions. How does the water reach the bilge from the tank, there does not seem to be a open passage? The marina discovered that when the bilge liner, seems to a unfinshed woven mat type surface, if pushed with a finger it oozes the blackish water. They think that the water has reached the lead keel and is being discolored by it and even smells like it. Is this possible? Is there a way to better seal off the bilge from the keel? There is a crack in the bottom of the keel just forward of the most rearward port side keel bolt. I was told early on that this was common and to not worry about it. Yes I need to work harder to sove any water leaks the boat has, but this blackish water problem serios. Can any of you offer any ideas or solutions. I can't beleive that this is a first. keel stub

I have a C 30 1988 # 5115 The tank ports leak if you dont have teflon on them the water should run down the hull around the wood that is under the head door around the mast block and in to the bilge but most of the boats ive seen had exposed wood in the floor and under the mast and the water cant come out . The water tank sweets under the bunk so it wet anty way. my keel stub was teak your keel stub should be teak also ,this is the good news .The bad news is the teak turns black when it starts to rot.If the bottom of the bilge is cracked you will need to replace your keel stub sooner or later. teak can stay we for a long time and still be strong .Your mast block is fur and if your tank has been leaking it would be driping on the wood I would check there first..If your keel is wet and your mast block is rotten it should be changed at the same time. I would drill a holes in the mast block and check it with a screw driver. If your screw diver pushs in the block is rotted and needs to be replaced. It better to replace the wood befor it sinks and cracks the roof.I would do the keel stub at the same time .The job takes a long three day weekend If you have man help ! My wife helped me do mine and she looked very hot with glass chunks in her hair. The 202 solvent took her long finger nails off with the gloves .She liked being in the bilge better then getting cranked up the mast for a lost hailyard.
