I have a Hunter 30 1991 and am trying to get a bimini for it. Seems that the boom comes down too far. Has anyone found a solution to this?

Bimini Okay

Don't know where you heard it was a problem. I and many others have bimini's on 30Ts. I bought mine from Bob Wolfe in Topeka Kansas. I sail with the Bimini up - no problem.

Stand Up head Room

If you are asking about a bimini with standing headroom, the only practical option is to have a triangle removed from the bottom of the main. I did this several years ago as I did not plan to grow old hunched over under a low bimini. No visible decrease in speed and increase in safety. You haved to be standing on the bridge deck to get hit by the boom. Frank

Bi-Level Bimini

I recently replaced our first bimini on our '91 30T with a bi-level bimini. It allows me to stand at the helm and look out over the top of the "main" bimini. It works well for us as we added a leather rub strip on the outside top of that bimini to alleviate wear when the boom touched. With the topping lift tightened, there is no chafe. When under sail with the topping lift released, there is no noticable rubbing. I can also stow the bimini against the backstays when desired. Any reputable canvas shop that builds biminis ought to be able to build one for your 30.
