Morning all,
we just bought our first boat a 1987 c27 catalina. Lucky to buy it from an older gent who really took good care. Good survey results ect. However it looks as if the boat at one point in time had a doger, and we don't really know if thats the way to go or to get a bimini for some shade this summer. Really hard to see the best way to go relative to a bimini-short from stern pulpit to as far as the boom which wouldn't give you a whole lot of coverage but at leat you could get the height up on it. Or a bimin that goes under boom ?? the c27 is a tall rig with a split back stay. Maybe someone has some experience with them or maybe some pictures? we have the boat here in lake ontario gta area.
thanks

I have both on my C28 - that's the way I bought it, and love the flexibility in shading and cooling the cockpit in hot sun, while also enjoying the warmth and dryness the dodger provides during cooler sailing days. My open bimini opens from just aft of the boom to the rail. Between the dodger and open bimini is probably 1.5 feet of open air, but even that could be closed off with a connector I rarely use. I suppose to some degree your question might depend on whether your boat has a tiller or wheel, and the conditions you normally sail.
