RE: Morgan Freeman

Morgan Freeman was in a movie with Keano (sp) Reeves. His characcter's name was "Mr. Shannon." Can't remember the name of the movie, but it was about a perpetural energy machine. MArc

owns and sails a Shannon 38 that he had semi-custom built here in RI a few years ago and commissioned at my marina. The boat's name is Aphrodesia, named by his grand daughter. He keeps it at VGYH on Virgin Gorda, BVI.

More on Billy Joel

The original Alexa used to be kept at the yard in Three Mile Harbor where we winter our boat. That great song has them leaving from the very bell in Gardiner's Bay that we pass every day sailing. He now does his boat building business with a yard in Shelter Island and I believe he owns a dock in Sag Harbor as well. Although I like what he does, his newer boats tend to be the ultra high speed boats that seem to be the worst for the environment and safety, at least when the owners open up the throttles.

Humphrey Bogart

Humphrey Bogart was a passionate sailor and racer. Interviews with those who knew him tell the story of how he raced saturday's with friends on a frequent schedule. I bet this guy made more crossings to Catalina Island via his sailboat then any other person in his time!! I recall a made for television movie about his life that showed his love for sailing. In fact one of the ending scenes was when he was aboard his sloop with his young son and he says to his son, " if you want to experience god, go sailing"! Amen brother................. Bob

Ted, you are more likely to bump into

Billy Joel driving erratically down Abrahams Path in a BMW than on the water. The fire hydrant at Springy Banks and Abrahams Path was taken out by him a few years ago. The cops showed up and filed no complaint against him. The locals in EH like him because he took up the cause for the haul seiners aganst the state DEC some years back. That was the second 'accident' of his that I recall. I think there might have even been a visit to re-hab after he drove into a house in Oyster Bay more recently. Watch out for Billy Joel on the highways!

lets not forget the Tugboat Captain Willie!

Yep, the right honorable Mickey Mouse, who started on a Tugboat! FDR and later presidents used the Yacht Sequoia, till the peanut farmer stopped it.

How about Dr. Laura?

Dr. Laura, nationally syndicated radio show host. I understand that she has only recently gotten into sailing and now owns and races 4 sailboats.

Drl Laura has a Northwind 50 in Santa Barbara..

Abe well she's not young

I guess age takes it toll on everyone. 30 years from USC and you expect her to still look like Angie Dickinson !?! She still looks good to me and if shes a boat babe she even looks better ! Who here looks still looks that good anyway (especially me at my age)

No..old salt...its the Kennedy disease....

..they were reckless then and they are now. That it why john jr loss his life. I bet he took the lifelines out himself. abe

It was not made with lifelines

President Kennedy's boat was a Wiano Senior, it was not made with lifelines. It was daysailor, along the same class as the Morris, Buckley, Alerion, etc. If that is recklessness, perhaps you might want to inform the thousands of people that sail that type of boat to warn them of their rash behavior.

Dr. Laura just got a J-145

in Santa Barbara. My oldest son sailed with her once... I think he's jealous because she seems to hire 'professional sailors' to crew for her and he's not quite in that elite category just yet. I think they take their 'beer can' racing pretty seriously in Santa Barbara.... more like 'moet bottle'? Cheers, Bob
