Custom Mattress

When we considered living aboard and cruising, we decided that sleeping in comfort was paramount ... We had Handcraft Mattress : http://www.hmcwest.com/products.htm Build a custom mattress for our vee-berth. They came out and measured the space, made templates and a few weeks later: voile', a huge box arrived and we have slept well ever since. We have added a 2" memory foam pad and it is near-perfect. The mattress folds in half lenghtwise for access to the storage and water tank. The 'hinge' is not noticable and the princess would never notice a pea stowed away underneath. Made up with flannel sheets year round. Someday we will actually trim and fit the sheets to the mattress ... but till then .. just stuff the extra material ... and check for light-leaks ..

Off the cuff vs custom

I had custom made sheets and day covers made for my Bene 393. They look great! But making them up is such a nuisance, I prefer to throw the sheets from my former 311 over the day covers along with the blankets from same. Comes morning, I just fold up the old and stow them in the center seat in the saloon. custom mades still lood great without having to put them back (just smooth out the wrinkles). BTW, 393 came standard with inner spring matresses.

My wife is a flabby 260 lbs, so I just sleep on top of her..sort of like a warm waterbed.

Two sleeping bags zipped together works for...

the admiral and I. A print fitted comforter covers everything nicely when not in use and also helps when the temperature drops. The original four inch thick foam pad works just fine. Terry
